  1. We don’t. I think some folks just like to encourage deepening the divide and single out as if it’s a blind people only problem. Follow enough odd people who can see and you see that they post similar. Difference is most of the time they take a pic of the pizza. Lol
And I have the same eye rolling head shaking reaction. Doesn’t matter who posts it. lol
I just figure people are having a slow day and they’re trying to include everyone else in it. ?

  2. This is making me forever grateful that I’m either not following those people or that my limiting social media time is making me miss all that. Maybe both. ?
Now I do admit to posting a lot of recipes and sometimes posting about something I make. But sighted people do that too. And besides, maybe it’ll encourage people to cook or order different stuff. At the very least, I get to make people hungry. ?

  3. Wouldn’t it be better to hit the divide between the haves and have nots at its source? Let’s maybe start with a media blitz that shows blind people doing more than posing for non-24 medicine commercials. The haves need to be shown as your average Joe to those that would assume us to be extraordinary, and it needs to be done in a medium that seeps into the subconscious of the people whose attitudes need changing.
aira being free still leaves the have nots as not having. Not sure why people would think (not that I think you think this) that this would solve the divide.

  4. I completely agree re: showing successful blind people as average joes through mediums like TV. I think you have to watch though that it doesn’t turn into “Meet the Blind” month or day or year. And I’m not sure how they think Aira being free would solve the unemployment problem, or the motivation problem, or any of the other root problems that are causing the disparity. I’m all for social justice and will wear the social justice warrior label proudly. But in order for anything to be true social justice, it needs to be practical so that it can last. Just making everything free isn’t the answer to that.
