I found this while reading an article entitled Idol-Smashing and Immodesty in the Groves of Academe, by Wilfred M. McClay, which appears in the winter edition of “In Character”:

There is self-deception at work when people luxuriate
in the fruits of worldly success while condemning the cultural forces that sustain them.

I think that’s worth keeping in mind.
